Fragile items are what people worry about most when moving. With the right materials and a few simple steps, every piece can arrive intact.
1. Get your materials ready first
You need small sturdy boxes, bubble wrap, packing paper, tape and a marker.
2. Line the bottom of the box
Start with a layer of crumpled paper or bubble wrap to absorb shocks from below.
3. Wrap every piece on its own
Wrap each plate or glass in packing paper, then in bubble wrap for your most valuable pieces. Never let two items touch unprotected.
4. Stand plates on their edge
Pack plates vertically, like files, rather than stacked flat. They handle pressure much better this way.
5. Fill every gap
Empty space means movement, and movement means breakage. Fill gaps with paper until nothing shifts when you gently shake the box.
6. Small box, clear label
Use small boxes for heavy and fragile items, and mark them Fragile along with the room name.
